Please join long-time knitter and knitwear designer, Lisa Limber, for a workshop which will take your knitting from scarves to creating your own, unique cardigan sweater.  This workshop will teach you how to accurately measure gauge, how to size your sweater, how to pick-up and bind-off stitches, and create simple neckline and sleeve shaping, among other helpful knitting tips and techniques.  You will leave this class inspired and ready to create your own beautiful cardigan.

  Homework:

In deciding on the yarn you would like to use for this sweater, it is recommended that you use a bulky yarn in, cotton, wool, or ribbon, etc.  A variegated yarn makes this a more interesting sweater, however solid color yarns are also very nice.

Suggested yarns:  (choose any one only)
Schaefer Yarns - Sandra (cotton), Elaine (wool)
Cascade Yarns - Pastaza
Trendsetter - Dolcino
Berroco - Zen
You will need, approximately, 1,100 yards to create this sweater.

Desired Gauge:  3 - 3-1/2 stitches to the inch on US size 11 or 10-1/2 needles.  TO SAVE TIME, it is recommended that you knit a 4” x 4” swatch to clearly establish your gauge.

Stitch Pattern:  This sweater is best when using the seed stitch, garter stitch or a stitch that allows the garment to lie flat.  The seed stitch pattern is easiest to knit when you cast on an uneven number of stitches. On the right side (RS), begin with a knit stitch, purl one, knit one, etc. to end of row.  On wrong side (WS), begin with a knit stitch, purl one, knit one, etc. to end of row.  Continue in this pattern throughout.

Please create, and bring with you, a 4” by 4” swatch of the yarn and needle size you want to use for your sweater.   It is also important that, before you come to class, you decide on the overall width of your finished garment.  Be sure to bring your knitting kit with scissors, tape measure, stitch markers, etc.  If you want to take notes, please bring your own pen and paper.
