Why Do We Knit?

Some time ago this question came up and I received wonderful letters from some of you, telling me what makes knitting and crocheting so important in your lives.

Why is it that we spend lots of money on yarn, patterns and supplies, spend more time learning the craft by taking classes and workshops and then spend countless hours actually making our project?

When we first started our business at the Orange County Swapmeet, I had a customer who bought lots and lots of wool for an afghan she was making. She finally told me that she was working on her Ph.D. in Psychiatry and keeping her hands busy helped her. We had already opened our store when she came in one day all excited, waving a business card under my nose, exclaiming: "Gaby! I did it! I opened up my office! If you know anyone who needs counseling......" and before I could grab the card, she yanked it back with: "What am I talking about... they come to you for counseling......!!!"

We would love it if you shared with us again, why YOU knit or crochet and what it does for you.
My favorite son-in-law suggested the other day, that in knitting and crocheting, we really record a block of time in our lives. It takes time to make something and when you look at your finished piece, you will always remember the things that transpired in your life during that time. If you're like me, you might look at it 20 years later and say:
I made that????

Inspiration

Have you ever wondered where inspiration comes from? Our favorite son-in-law is just finishing his second book on inspiration. The first one is titled: Caffeine for the Creative Mind and soon his second in the series will be available.

A while back he offered a workshop at our store to help us find the creative person within us. Since they have moved farther away, it is not as easy for us to ask him back, but I thought his ideas were worth re-visiting. Please

for pictures that I know will set your mind a-thinking....

Recently I have decided to share with you some of my patterns for free in appreciation of your patronage and to help you use up your stash yarns and to inspire you to buy new yarns. So rather than sending them to you each week, which proved to be quite the task,
I will link to them here.

Please call the store toll-free at 1 888 770 7809 for any of your yarn needs or e-mail me with any questions. Enjoy!

Please note: The patterns are mine and you have permission to use them for yourself and even pass them on, but not for you to use commercially. Thanks so much!

Store Samples

As you probably know, we try to have lots and lots of samples throughout the store. Perhaps you wonder what happens to those samples after we no longer carry the yarn. Well I gave many of them to our daughter and she placed them on Etsy to sell.

On a personal note:

A son asked his father, 'Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?' The father who, despite having a heart condition, says 'Yes'. They went on to complete the marathon together. Father and son went on to join other marathons, the father always saying 'Yes' to his son's request of going through the race together.

One day, the son asked his father, 'Dad, let's join the Ironman together.' To which, his father said 'Yes' . For those who didn't know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever. The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometer) ocean swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike ride, and ending with a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the coast of the Big Island . Father and son went on to complete the race together.

What challenges are we facing today?
