Laura Militzer Bryant Teaches at Yarn Lady
INAUGURAL STITCH N PITCH 9/09/2006 Oakland A's vs Tampa Bay Devil
Rays.
If Dr. Phil was going to be at Yarn Lady, would you want to know about it? I think so!!! Well. you can relax. Dr. Phil is NOT coming, but Laura Bryant is!!
In the world of Fiber and Design and Art, there are those who excell in their craft. If they are willing to impart some of their knowledge to us, how wonderful to be able to sit with them and "pick their brain" and learn from them. At Yarn Lady, we strive to bring you these fine artists and we do hope that you will take advantage of the opportunity.
This time we will again welcome Laura Militzer Bryant to our store. Now you can really color us proud because Laura is very busy and to have her come and spend time with us..... well I'm thankful!
If you've taken one of Laura's workshops, you know how much you can learn from
her. If you haven't, then you need to be here.
I have had people tell me that they are not sure that they should or COULD take the class because they weren't sure that they were "good enough". Well let me try to put THAT to rest! You will need to know how to knit and purl and you will have to have an understanding of the basic knitting terms. Laura will assume that you will understand how to knit into the front and the back of a stitch and how to do a yarn over or knit two together, perhaps even an SSK or a PSSO. If you don't know what that is, come in ahead of time and we'll tell you. You can also read up on it in countless "How To" knitting books.
As
for anything else,
THAT"S WHY YOU'RE TAKING THE CLASS!! You will learn!!!
Laura wants you to be in these workshops so she is even offering her Interlocking Garter Stitch Workshop for FREE with purchase of one 8oz hank of Prism "STUFF" if you sign up before January 6th, 2007
If you're not familiar
with "Stuff" or any of Prism's huge selection of hand dyed yarns, please
go to their website and check them
out! Don't forget to come back though! We are working on getting more of the Prism
yarns onto our website so please keep checking back. The wonderful thing is that
we HAVE much of this yarn on our shelves right now ready for you to order. Just

You know how when you introduce someone you would like to have the chance to mention ALL of their credentials just so people really know whom they are talking with? Well I feel that way about our celebrities. So I thought I would gather some information about Laura and share it with you. I hope you enjoy seeing some of the pieces she has done. I'm told that she is also commissioned to do art pieces for major corporations. Anyway: I'm impressed and I hope that you are.

Laura Militzer Bryant received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan where she concentrated in art textiles. In 1984 Laura founded her company Prism Arts, Inc. As the creative force behind Prism yarns, she has published more than 36 pattern books. She is a contributing editor for Cast On magazine, writing a regular column, "The Art of Knitting", and is on the Advisory Board for The Knitting Guild Association. LAURA MILITZER BRYANT ARTIST'S STATEMENT
The intent of my work can be seen
in poet Mark Strand's stanza: In a place that is not a place, but where the mortal
beauty of the world is stored. My work reflects an inner landscape, of this world
and others. Imagery is often envisioned as a temple, wherein rests the spirituality
of mankind. I tempt the viewer to enter this sanctuary; an invitation issued through
portals of form, fiery colors and beckoning layers of deep, calm perspective.
Once involved, the viewer might not return. Each line is individually colored and carries its own meaning. As lines build to layers, new places evolve into their own separate energy, until all elements finally emerge as a single spiritual face. My work is intuitive, although realized through formal and analytical fabrication.ta-i-rvr0-@-a-oo.com It couples free flowing introspection of the human intangible with the discipline of geometry and explicit color relationship. The work is my commitment to what went before, and a responsibility to what comes after. It delivers for me a handhold in the deep and abiding spirit of mankind.

Did you survive all of the hussle and bustle?
The Holidays are supposed to be all about God but in a tangible way, this means PEOPLE and mostly family. I hope you enjoyed being around YOUR family!
This past year, we had the opportunity to visit several cemeteries in our travels to Europe, looking up family. Seeing all of the markers made me wonder what should be on mine when the time comes. Two or three words that would describe my life. When I told my husband what I thought those words should be he said: "You had better write that down! We'll never remember!" -- But I don't think I will- for if it's not obvious, then I didn't live it and it shouldn't be written.
So my prayer for this New Year is that I would live up to my own ideals so it is very obvious what I stand for.
Matthew
5:15-17
15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead
they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the
same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and
praise your Father in heaven.
Happy New Year!
