Mixing Knitting and Fabric: If you've never thought of using home dec fabric as in inspiration for a garment, now is your chance. Fabric can be used for the main body and the motif can be copied, stylied or complemented to knit other parts such as sleeves, lapels, cuffs, godets, yokes or even one side of the front. Bring your inspiration fabric to class and Colleen will help your design the knitted parts to make a unique garment.
Materials: 1-2 yds of medium weight home dec fabric (washed and wrinkle free), a simple jacket sewing pattern with set-in sleeves, scissors and pins. The yarn can be purchased at Yarn Lady.
Homework: Bring original pattern package and material to class. Highlight the measurements for your size on the pattern.

Modular Freeform: This structured freeform style is a good way to ease into "freeform" thinking and composition. Components can be blocks of different stitch patterns, stripes, mitered rectangles or squares, intarsia patterns, bobbles, etc. Adjustments for sizing are easy to make an actual garment.
Materials: Size 6 or 7 straight needles, numerous skeins of yarn in various fibers and textures.
Homework: Knit a mitered square (10 sts each side). Knit another mitered square attached to first one (same direction).

July 28, 2007 1PM - 4PM $40
Half Circle Freeform: A shawl or garment can be created in a modular fashion using half circles. They can be worked in a very symmetrical way, or for those more adventurous knitters, in an asymmetrical way. The half circles can all go in the same direction for a calm, balanced look, or they can be tumbled and turned in different directions and knit different sizes for a more artisitc look.
Materials: Size 6 or 7 straight needles, large assortment of different yarns in a pleasing colorway (6-10 skeins)
Homework: none
