WHAT IS A BAG SALE?

Our Bag Sales are fun events. We hold them just outside our store where we set up big bins filled with bags of yarn. You have to buy the whole bag and there is no return, but you get them for HALF PRICE!

Please scroll down for answers to frequently asked questions ...

I thought I would show you some pictures (click on images to view them larger) of our storage unit where we keep the yarn between the sales and get everything ready...
... this way you can see that we will again have LOTS of new yarns.  Just about everything that you see on the racks is new and you have not seen it at our bag sales before!!

NOW... I know that some of you are asking: "What IS a bagsale anyhow??" Let me answer those frequently asked questions…

What IS a bag sale anyhow?   A bag sale is where we take discontinued yarns and bag them up and you buy them by the bag as opposed to by the ball. But you get to buy it at HALF the regular price!

How many are there in a bag?   In many cases there are 10 balls to the bag but it can vary. Most of the bags on the racks have ten balls. The bags in the "playpen" are clearly marked as to number of balls, yardage and price.

Is there enough to make a project?    Not necessarily. Of course it would depend on your project. To make a project in a certain size it will take a certain amount of yardage to complete. There are charts and you get to do the math, but of course, we'll help you with it.

If I bought too much or the wrong thing, can I return it?   No, so sorry!! You get to buy it at half price, so you own it. Choose wisely!! You can always trade with a friend or sell it on eBay if you bought too much…

How much yarn does it take to make a sweater?   That would depend on the type of sweater, the size and, of course, the yardage per ball. Ask us! We'll help you with that. Of course if you have a pattern in mind, it should tell you the gauge and the yardage requirements.

Is there enough yarn in a bag to make a poncho?   In most cases, I would think so!! Again, it would depend on the size of the poncho and the yarn. The bigger the needle that you will be using, the less yardage you will probably need.

Are all the balls all the same dye lot?   The yarn that's on the racks definitely has the same dye lot in the bags. The yarns in the "playpen" may or may not, but most of them do. Ask us!!

What do I do if the yarn has different dye lots?   The manufacturers of hand dyed yarns as well as more and more makers of factory space dyed yarns recommend that you work with two balls of yarn, alternating the two every two rows. That way it fools the eye and any difference in dye lot will not show up. Ask us how, we'll be glad to show you!

Are all the balls the same color?   In most cases, yes! Although we have some bags with mixed colors. These are very popular and tend to go fast.

If I don't buy enough can I buy more later?   I pretty well have to say no to that. Since these are discontinued yarns there is only a limited amount of each yarn. Even if some of it did not sell, it would be almost impossible for us to find between sales.

Do you have any patterns that I can use for the yarn I've bought?
I'll list just a few generic patterns here.  Click on your size to open these online and print them out (be patient, they take a while to load): Sweater Wizard Pattern: size 32, size 36, size 40, size 44, size 48.  I wrote them using "The Sweater Wizard". You can go online and buy this program yourself or you can come to us after the sale with a knitted 4x4" swatch and we'll take your measurement and write you a pattern. This is just one of the many services we provide for our customers when they buy yarn from us! Please note that the Sweater Wizard gives you estimated yardage requirements as well.
